UPDATE again: Shine 2010 – work in progress…

Update: The short video now includes footage of the resultant cast piece. I was amazed at how much detail the silicon bronze took of the original and am delighted with the result. Granted it isn’t much of a looker however the refinement begins over the next couple of days for preparation for the silver plating. Even at this stage the transition into a ‘real’ material opposed to the original SLS Nylon has really brought this concept to life.

This morning I visited Powderhall Bronze, Fine Art Founders in Edinburgh to witness the progress of the new edition of Shine I am currently working on. It was fascinating to see these guys work, their teamwork was outstanding and hopefully on Monday when we crack the mould it will have been successful. The piece has been created for the new Crafts Council, England touring exhibition titled Lab Craft: Digital Adventures in Contemporary Craft which has been curated by Max Fraser. I’m unsure who else will be part of this exhibition but I have my suspicions of the usual suspects. I will be showing four pieces including a new ceramic teapot, Wineglass and giant knife from the Cross-fire series and a bronze cast/silver plated Shine.
