Shine investigates the reflective properties of a metallic object; in this case the subject was a Victorian candelabra. The reference information was generated through documenting the reflection by using raw data via a planar 3D scanner. When scanning a metallic object the laser beam is unable to distinguish between the surface and the reflection. The spikes represent the intensity of the reflection.

Shine is a project that considers an object, its interpretation, mis-interpretation and reproduction back to object. When we look at Shine, we need to consider the notion of what is a ‘correct’ reproduction. Sculptors and artists have had the opportunity to explore interpretation and abstraction and Shine carries on this tradition in the digital world where high resolution precision has been disrupted using the nature of the materials and processes themselves.
